I first joined the gangshow in 1976 as a
12 year old scout after reading an advert in the local paper and
much badgering off my mother I went to the auditions at Eleaner
St school and was accepted. After quite a few weeks of rehearsals
the show went to the Cleethorpes Pier (now Pier 39 night club), we
had our dress rehearsal on the Sunday and the first performance
on the Monday `which was OAP's night, we then went through to
Saturday were we had a matinee in the afternoon followed by a
break for tea and some time spent in Wonder Land ( also alas
no-more ) "you didn't half get some funny looks if you don't
get all your makeup off" and then a night performance.
In those days the gangshow uniform was for the boys all white
shorts, socks, plimsoles and t-shirts and white tennis skirts for
the girls. The cast list for that year was very much more boys than
girls.

When the Pier closed down The show moved
to the Central Hall in Duncolm St Grimsby and the following year it moved again
to the Memorial hall Cleethorpes were it remained up to 1992 when moved to the
Ice House Christian center for 3 years, We then moved to the new Grimsby
Auditorium ( the acoustics are better in the entrance than they are on stage )
Where we have remained.
Then in the latter part of
the 1980s the rehearsal uniform changed to Dark trousers and a red T-shirt or
sweat-shirt with GS Grimsby on the upper Left side, in 1989 the logo was changed
to the GS Grimsby surfing a wave, the wave contains the first few bars of Crest.
The cast now contains more
girls than boys although most of them are in the Scout with Guides adding a good
balance in the Show. The show remains as always a variety show taking it
material from the popular shows as well as the London variety show and the royal
gala.
